With Mother’s Day literally around the corner, now, more than ever, is the time to cast your eyes towards the underprivileged moms out there, who largely go unnoticed — and lacking the prerequisite gift of love.

Thankfully, due to the efforts of The Ark, a non-profit based in Athens, Georgia., which seeks to empower the working poor, moms who are somewhat neglected, can feel cherished on this special calendar day.

For the fifth consecutive year, The Ark is running their “Adopt-a-Mom” campaign which allows YOU, with a small donation of $25, to adopt a mother for Mother’s Day, in honor or in memory of a mom who has touched your life in a significant way.

Teaming up with Grandview Care Center, Athens Heritage Home, Inspiring Hospice, University Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Athens Community Council on Aging, the organization has managed to identify over 250 moms who will go unnoticed and otherwise forgotten on Mother’s Day.

The appreciation felt on the other side, of those moms who have been embraced on Mother’s Day thanks to The Ark’s program, is evident in the testimonials below;

“Whoever I am saying this to, I think it is an angel – I am not sure, but it was certainly a surprise and I am so thrilled.  I love you very much whoever did this and God bless you for adopting me, “an elderly woman without a family relays.

A single working mother adds: “Thank you so much! You guys are wonderful! I really, really appreciate you all taking the time out to look for us moms because sometimes we get overlooked. This has really really made my Mother’s Day. I really appreciate The Ark and I don’t have to ask for help often, but every time I do you all are always there. Trust me, the community appreciates what you do. And thank you again so much, I hope all the mothers out there have a Happy Mothers Day.”

The Ark, whose mission “is to provide help, hope, understanding, and advocacy for our neighbors in a financial crisis, helping them move toward self-sufficiency,”  says it has 70 moms still available for adoption — moms who will be on the receiving end of a bouquet of  flowers and a special card, if you adopt them for a day.

Adopting only takes 2 minutes, but the impact will last a lifetime (the money also goes to the organization’s single working mother’s fund).
